When an old sea dog spoke to me of “whales in summer throwing tail contests,”no one can say for sure whether this really happens. But these leviathans know how to kick up a fuss. Imagine a rock concert with all of nature’s own amplifiers turned on to full blast–and these great sea beasts being the field’s rock stars.

In the mood for an adventure? Forget those cramped tours, try a kayak instead. Paddling through the water and one of these giants just might come swimming right alongside you. Don’t forget to call out “Encore” when a large whale pops up next to your kayak because he just wants to look around a bit!
